My First Time Away

I just returned from Los Angeles CA from my first time away from the triplets. My report to and parent company is in LA and we traveled there for an end of the year/holiday get together. I love California and normally wouldn't hesitate for a second when given the opportunity to travel there, but this time was different.

The babies had only been home about six weeks, Sammy just a month. I told my company that if it was simply an appreciation and entertainment event perhaps I would stay back due to the infants and schedules. What was even more bothersome to me is to leave A at home alone to cover it for several nights on her own. We were planning on a few sales meetings in conjunction, so I needed to be there. So I packed up my stuff and A and I made arrangements for her Mother to come and help and off I went, leaving the little ones for the first time.

On the flight over the airlines featured the film, March of the Penquins. I heard it was good and since it was such a long flight I thought I would watch it. Mistake. I loved the film, but fought back tears the entire time because of course the film is in a large part about parenting. Although I was able to enjoy a couple of nights on full sleep, which was amazing, I still struggled with being away. A did a great job handling it nearly alone, but I believe she was relieved to see me walk back through the door. I was too. Livi, Sammy and Benjamin all looked like they had grown in the three days I was gone. I think they had.

I never thought that one day a trip to LA would seem cumbersome. Wow, things have changed!
